Walking in Southern Scotland

Southern Scotland is a walker's paradise.

In this natural environment, there are so many different types of walks to do and an excellent walking infrastructure. Walking in Southern Scotland lets the visitor experience the culture, history and local people in abundance.

There are local short walks and moderate walks (less than 5 miles), perhaps through woodland, along beaches or through gardens, villages and towns. There are longer walks through forests, farmland or sections of coastline. There are hill and mountain walks and long distance walks such as the Ayrshire Coastal Path, The Southern Upland Way and various river walks.

The Wolsey Lodges and many of the accommodation providers will help to plan your walks, provide maps, packed lunches, drying facilities and transport information. Walking Festivals throughout the area are hugely successful. Many of the Wolsey Lodges and small accommodation providers have access to undiscovered walks and there is always a delicious breakfast to start your day and a superb meal to end it.
