You don't have to imagine... Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet was born here, where you can celebrate his life at the Burns National Heritage Park. The first Open Golf Championship was held at Prestwick in 1860; and the home of the Scottish Grand National is at Ayr Racecourse. Jewels in the crown not to be missed are Culzean Castle and Country Park and Dumfries House. There is Dalgarven Mill, Dean, Kelburn and Dundonald Castles and many other attractions not to be missed. Activities include walking, yachting, racing, golfing, cycing. Part of Ayrshire, are the beautiful islands of Arran and Cumbrie. Arran has granite mountains, standing stones, pretty villages and whisky. Cumbrie boasts the smallest cathedral in Europe and you can hire a bike in Millport and easily cycle round the 4 miles x 2 miles island. |
